Once, Bruce Gilden said, « Shoot who you are »!
Yann is a freelance photographer from Reunion Island. Photography allowed him to comprehend and embrace the essence of his innerself. By trusting his intuition, he captures life surrounding him, to understand his own existence. By capturing simple everyday moments, he continuously strives to find that extra sentiment in the ordinary. The pursuit of fulfillment as a photographer is an eternal search of oneself.
He draws inspiration from Henri Cartier-Bresson, Alex Webb, and Sebastiao Salgado. These photographers master the art of spontaneous capture of moments in the harmony of the composition. Yann’s work is connected to their humanist approach. They put the human as a referent in each of their photographs. A vision of the world – of their world – and the society that challenges and amuses the photographer as much as the spectator.
This is the way Yann conceive photography: having fun with life while questioning it.
Based in Cape Town, South Africa, he has been practicing as an independent photographer for several years now.
